Bonafide Quarterly Webinar Q1 2023

In this quarterly update, our experts talk about the performance, sector news, company fundamentals and the potential of land-based aquaculture.

In brief:
UN delegates reached an historic agreement on protecting marine biodiversity in international waters while China joined as net importer in the Fish & Seafood sector. "Higher for longer" - this is the current topic when it comes to salmon prices. Lack of supply and high demand are leading to new price levels. From a fundamental point of view, all top holdings from 2019 have created value, share prices are currently lagging behind. And finally, land-based systems offer potential for the future, the "proof of concept" is currently still missing.

Targeted investments in aquaculture herald a future that offers greater food security, higher incomes for fishermen, and healthy proteins for millions of people.

Following a strong start to the year, the Bonafide Global Fish Fund came under pressure in the second quarter. The fund declined by −6.22% (EUR) in Q2 and −1.79% for the first half of the year. This development was primarily driven by geopolitical tensions and currency effects. Our portfolio companies remain operationally resilient. At the same time, attractive valuations, growing salmon exports to Asia, and dynamic investment activity in the aquaculture sector are opening up new opportunities for long-term value creation.
